Hello to all our friends and family! This is the official web site of Justin and Laura Detmar.
This site has been created and is maintained by Justin and Laura. The purpose of this site is to share images, stories, and various information with our loved ones.
First important piece of information would be Our Story. Read on for all the mushy details.
Our Story
Justin and I met in the spring of 1998 at a grocery store called Vons Safeway (you may have heard of it...). That was my first job and Justin's second. These two young teenagers had no idea what to think of each other at first, other than "I wonder if I can pass off my cart duty to him?"
Well time progressed and after many days of bagging goceries together, cleaning check stands, and long walks under the romantic moonlight collecting shopping carts a friendship and attraction grew. Many workers in the grocery store saw what was happening long before Justin and I were aware of it. One checker even named our romance "Love on the Produce Isle..."
As many of you know, I ice skated all through high school and college. I frequently went on skating trips for days at a time. One day Justin took a bold move and decided to wish me luck for one special competition. It was my first international competition outside of the US that happened to fall on my 18th birthday. As my family was taking me to the airport very early in the morning I found a card addressed to me on the front porch. It was a birthday card from Justin with a calling card and his phone number. His message simply read, "Good luck and Happy Birthday! If you get homesick, give me a call." Funny enough, it was a domestic calling card and didn't work in Paris (where I was), but I made it a point to call him at least once while I was over seas. We made plans to celebrate my birthday when I got home.
Justin let me pick what I wanted to do for my birthday date, so our first date was a wonderful picnic on February 16th. For my birhtday gift Justin gave me a "friendship ring" with my birhthstone. A few years later that progressed to a "promise ring," which after 10 wonderful years has finally graduated to an "engagement ring!" (click here for the engagement story).
We can honestly say we are more in love today than ever and can't wait to see what joys the next 10, 15, lifetime of years brings for us!
